Magenta Light Studios anunció que su drama de próximo estreno sobre la guerra civil salvadoreña, FIREFLIES AT EL MOZOTE, protagonizado por Paz Vega, se estrenará en los cines de EE.UU. el 17 de abril de 2026. Escrita y dirigida por el cineasta ya fallecido Ernesto Melara, la película se desarrolla en El Salvador en la década de 1980 y narra la historia de un niño de 10 años (Mateo Honles) que sobrevive a la masacre de su pueblo y lucha por lograr justicia para su familia asesinada, en medio de una sangrienta guerra civil.
Además de Vega y Honles, FIREFLIES AT EL MOZOTE también cuenta con las actuaciones de Juan Pablo Shuk (serie de Netflix Narcos), Yancey Arias (Queen of the South), Jeff Fahey (Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1) y Mena Suvari (American Beauty). La película está producida por Moctesuma Esparza (Selena), por Elias Axume para Premiere Entertainment Group y por Bob Yari para Magenta Light Studios.
Antes de su fallecimiento, el director Ernesto Melara declaró: “Esta película está dedicada a las víctimas de la violencia bélica en El Salvador, en Latinoamérica y en el resto del mundo”.

Magenta Light Studios has announced its upcoming Salvadoran Civil War drama FIREFLIES AT EL MOZOTE, starring Paz Vega, will be released in U.S. theaters on April 17, 2026.Written and directed by the late Ernesto Melara, the film is set in 1980s El Salvador and recounts the story of a 10-year-old boy (Mateo Honles) who survives the massacre of his village, and his quest to bring justice to his dead family in the middle of a bloody civil war.
